Paper packaging and printing business quality control process

June 16, 2021

The difficulty in quality management of paper packaging and printing companies is process control. This is determined by the characteristics of paper packaging printing: a wide variety of products, covering almost all categories of goods; orders vary in length, length is hundreds of thousands, but only a few hundred; product process routes are different, There are only two or three processes that are few, and there are more than a dozen processes; most of the processes are stand-alone operations, and it is difficult to realize the online assembly line production from beginning to end. One process is completed and transferred to the next process. Repeated feeding and repeated delivery , school bus many times, the control conditions are relatively easy to change, many factors affecting people. Due to the above characteristics, compared with other industries, paper packaging printing is still in the traditional industrial stage, and the constant control of the process is relatively difficult.

From the perspective of implementing the ISO quality management system, the basic conditions can be described as follows:

A considerable part of the paper packaging and printing companies have already established the IS09001 quality management system, but in essence, they can deeply understand the connotation of the IS09001 quality management system, and companies that can effectively implement it are only part of it.

In comparison, European and American companies pay more attention to system management and hope to use systematic management to constrain and regulate operators and achieve control over the production process; Japanese companies place special emphasis on the sense of responsibility and dedication of employees, and thus pass higher levels. The quality of personal work to achieve a stable control of the production process. At present, most printing companies in China have taken the European and American systems management model, and relatively few know about Japanese companies' management models.

At first glance, the quality management of Japanese paper packaging and printing companies has a kind of "self-employed" style. A typical Japanese paper packaging and printing company - Sen Paper, the company's nearly 150 people, with an annual output value of about 400 million yuan, but did not set up a special quality management department. Only 3 individuals throughout the company are responsible for quality management and 2 are responsible for purchasing inspections. The company's printed matter is mainly daily-use packaging, with a wide variety of cardboard boxes and corrugated boxes. Its production processes include: prepress, printing, bronzing, calendering, glazing, tamper, die-cutting and gluing. From the perspective of technical equipment, its advanced nature is not top-notch, and it can only be considered as a "second-rate" level, but its level of quality control can be described as world-class. After an in-depth exchange with the company's production director and the actual situation seen on the shop floor, our impression is that Japanese companies value the responsibility control of this process. This responsibility control is not limited to quality, but also reflected in the production efficiency and environmental 5S.

In the printing shop, usually two printers configure 5 people. When a quality problem is found in the printing process, the captain first identifies the problematic print product with a cutting strip, and temporarily stores the printed matter on the pallet. When it can be flipped, the personnel in the machine evacuation (the machine is still in normal production) will be sorted out separately, and the bad products will be singled out and marked, and the product flow will be transferred to the next process. After the printing, there is no so-called print-ready group. This is also the case in every subsequent process, and all process problems are the responsibility of this process. In the gluing process, we saw a gluing machine with three people. They are a captain (responsible for operating the machine, checking the quality of the paste box and assisting packing), feeding one person and receiving one person. In the case of a folder speed of 60,000/hour (face tissue box), they are also responsible for packing, sealing, labeling, and stacking pallets. If you do not see it with your own eyes, you do not believe it. In addition, there is no need to repeat paper loading between processes. At the time of receiving material from the previous process, the paper stack has been aligned, and the next process can directly push the entire pallet onto the machine to begin operations. This is also the result of the responsibility for the implementation of this process. There is no full-time inspector "helping" the operator to put a quality pass throughout the production process. The company does not even have the final inspection before the factory. The Japanese are unique about the quality of packaging in the world.
